About Thailand eSIM

The ETravelSim Thailand eSIM is a prepaid, data-only eSIM on the dtac network, with 5G where available and LTE elsewhere. Choose a data pack from 5 GB (7 days) to 100 GB (10 days), or an Unlimited plan for 7 or 10 days with no daily cap and no slowdown. Hotspot works on every plan, so you can share your connection with a laptop or a travel partner.

Your QR code arrives by email straight after purchase, so you can install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi. Validity starts only when the eSIM first connects to a network in Thailand. There is no Thai phone number: keep your home SIM for calls and OTPs, and call over WhatsApp, LINE or FaceTime.

How does Thailand eSIM work?

After purchasing an ETravelSim product, customers will receive a unique QR code via email. This code is provided to the registered email ID used during the purchase. The email will also contain detailed instructions on how to install the product. To begin using the product, scan the QR code.

How will I get the QR code for my purchase?

Once you have booked the eSIM, you can expect to receive the QR code to your registered email ID almost instantly. This will come with a guide for installing the QR code, SMDP address, and activation code. Once the QR code is installed, you are good to go.

How to activate the eSim?

After purchase, you will receive a QR code by email. Scan it with your phone's camera to install the eSIM on your device. The eSIM activates, and your plan's validity starts, when it first connects to a network at your destination, so you can install it before you travel.

How do I install the eSIM on an iPhone?

Your QR code arrives by email right after purchase. Install it before you travel, while connected to Wi-Fi:

  1. Open Settings → Mobile Service (or Cellular) → Add eSIM.
  2. Tap Use QR Code and scan the QR code from your email. If you can't scan it, tap Enter Details Manually and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the same email.
  3. Give the new line a label such as "Travel" and keep your home SIM as your primary line for calls and SMS.
  4. When you arrive, choose the travel eSIM for Mobile Data and turn on Data Roaming for that line.

How do I receive my Thailand eSIM?

It works wherever dtac has coverage. Signal is strongest in cities and busy tourist areas; on remote islands and in national parks it can be patchy on any network, so download offline maps before you go.

Can I use WhatsApp with a Thailand eSIM?

Yes, WhatsApp works perfectly with a Thailand eSIM. You can:

1. Send and receive messages
2. Make voice and video calls
3. Share photos, videos, and locations

Your WhatsApp number stays the same since WhatsApp is linked to your phone number, not the SIM you’re currently using.

How do I top up my plan?

The SIM was activated immediately upon landing at BKK and the internet speeds are some of the fastest I have experienced. I am fairly certain that calls were included in the package but when I tried to make a local call
I was not permitted to do so. A mild irritant but more than made up for by excellent internet speeds.
